B. sidthimunki: preferred H2O chemistry

I have a B. sidthimunki that I think I'm making sick. I notice after water changes (the next day) that his black sections go white-- they appear to be eroding. After this happens, I feed medicated food with Metronidazole and Kanamycin and he eventually returns to health. Are they known to be sensitive to changes in N levels? Does anyone know the preferred water chemistry of these guys? I keep it at 7.0 with KH of about 4-5 and a GH of 5-7. I also dose the tank with Iron for the plants. Anybody know what could be causing this? You can email me or respond to this forum.
