how do you keep an escape artist?

It's this Dojo loach... it's content, eating everything - but every now and then would end up on the carpet... doh!
Tank is covered tightly with plexiglass sheet, but this guy always manage to escape via the small filter/heater opening!

Any idea of why he's this suicidal?

Unless he likes cat hair (from rolling on the carpet), I don't understand why he would jump out

Tank has 0 Amonia/Nitrate/Nitrite. pH=7.8
(hard water)
