OT Microsorum 'Wendelov' problem

Has anyone ever experienced Java Ferns just suddenly dying?
I had three beautiful and verdant specimens of M. pteropus 'Windelov' tied to driftwood in my 30 gallon. No differences in water chemistry that I can detect, and they've been in there for six months or so. The other plants are all doing just fine. (So are the fish!)
Recently, they just started to go brown, as though the plant was rotting. M. pteropus does well in all my tanks, and no change has been made to lighting or temperature... What's going on?
Anybody here ever experience this?
