Aggressive Clowns?

I have a planted 20 gallon long (with a 20-40 gallon Emperor filter) with the following: 1 Blue Gourami (LARGE), 4 neon tetras, 2 corys, 2 female bettas, and 4 clown loaches. My clowns are all rather large 3-4 inches and normally get along with one another well. But recently the two largest of the clan have been locking jaws and pushing one another around almost nightly. They grow pale and really flustered, fins erect, with rapidly fluttering gills and mouths. The whole thing is quite unnerving! My whole idea in getting my 20 gallon was to provide a nice home for clowns, I'm just so worried about their little 'tiffs'. I plan on adding one more loach to maybe relieve some of the tension...Would that be a bad idea? I've read that a group of 5 or more clowns (of similar size) would make for a h
