Moving tanks - stream to deep?

I have a well established stream tank that is home to four Clowns, Barbs and Danios but I'm moving house and will take the fish with me.

I'm not a complete stranger to this as two of the Clowns did the move in reverse seven years ago. That was with a smaller tank and I more-or-less took all the water, reduced the level to 'wet gravel' in the aquarium, refilled on arrival, re-homed the fish. That worked pretty well.

This time I can approach that by taking as much water as possible (about 4/22 [gals Imperial] or twice that if I make a preparatory trip) and mix with fresh on arrival or I can set up another tank (larger and deeper) beforehand and move the fish into it. My questions are:

1) Old fish into new tank or as much old tank as possible?
