Dangerous Ornaments/Wood Issues

There seem to be some things that just don't work decoration-wise for loaches. Some that work if given care and attention. I'm wondering what your experiences are: what you recommend and wouldn't recommend.

For example:

when buying wood for the aquarium i notice any small holes and so on...anything that seems like a place a loach could get stuck and, despite how much i love the piece, i pass if it looks like a possible hazard. perhaps it is possible to fill a hole like that with silicone? anyone try this? or be willing to share other opinions, ideas, considerations?

clay pots....nice but that little hole on the top...have tried placing a lid (tray) on the top and that works but can get knocked off...now i've tried siliconing a marble into the hole..fits nicely and is, ok, cutesy. s'okay...the loaches and petricolas love them.

anyone have any other experiences with ornaments that you are willing to share: problems and/or solutions.

what you'd never buy again.

what works really well....
