botia angelicus death

The other day, the largest and skinniest of my Botia angelicus was found dead inside one of the slate caves. I am not sure how long he had been there, though it couldn't have been more then a day or two. There were some bones exposed, and the skin was grey with most spots almost completely faded. He always had a hardy appetite even though he was always skinny. The fish list is tetras, flagfish, krib, other botia angelicus, clown pleco, and small madagascar rainbows. The only aggressive one is the krib, but he leaves the loaches alone. Other then old age and water quality (which is fine), what could have happened?
