Copper and Plants, Cybermeez, Gareth, or...?

I started treating with CopperSafe. I moved all plants from 4 tanks into one tank, and several buckets, and distributed all fish from that now plant-only tank among the other tanks.

I know that if you treat with copper in saltwater tanks, you bascially completely ruin your substrate so no invertebrates can live on the substrate ever again, but is this the same for plants in freshwater?

Specifically, I'd like to know if once I'm done treating with the copper (I suspect to no avail, and all my fish will die agonzing, skin-peeling deaths anyway), must I replace the sand I'm using as substrate to be able to grow 2 ft. tall Amazon swords again?
