Cucumber - cooked or raw?

I had been feeding my clowns thin slices of raw "English" (or long) cucumbers with much success - lots of pushing and shoving for the tender center bits...
On the advice of one of the feeding pages on this site, I tried briefly blanching the slices in boiling water. While this works extremely well with peas, my clowns turn up their barbels at the cooked cucumber - they won't touch the stuff.
They're also not big on the other "field" cucumber, although they will eat the part near the pips.
Any advice on whether raw cucumber might be less healthy for them? Should we really be cooking the slices? Anyone else have feedback?
