What Would Cause Holes In Plants?

I know it's been posted here that the "pop" damage by Clowns are usually associated with Swords. That said, I go down to my LFS and scatch my head wondering what is causing damage to the plants in their large planted aquarium (a 6'er). Not only do the Swords have holes in them (many of them are are shaped like a "V," which I take it is from the Clowns?), but also found on others, including some very tough plants like Anubias, especially the newer leaves. These holes are numerous. I wish I had a digital camera. Any ideas?
