Survival of Malaysian Trumpet Snails in Botia Tank

I've noticed that I still have a good horde of MTS in my 80 long after introducing sids to the tank. I thought this was, in part, due to the fact that the snails come out at night and my sids are primarily daytime creatures.

That said, some time back, I traded in a number of botia-types from my 30 gal. I thought the tank must have been completely cleaned out of MTS long ago. Surprise! I counted 12 live MTS after tanking out the fish. There were also empty snail shells on the sand. Interesting. Population control, but not a complete wipe out.
