Bulldozer dojos

My dojo loaches have apparently decided they don't like my anubias nana where it's been planted for months. This is now the third morning in a row the anubias has been floating at the top.

Does the anubias have to be rooted in the gravel? I keep my java fern tied to wood or rocks, and my crypts are doing very well in pots, but the anubias has always been just fine in the gravel. Until the bulldojos got to it. Can I tie the anubias to a piece of petrified wood or a rock ro something to spare it from the tender mercies of my loaches?
