quarantine tank

In the near future I am planning on purchasing some cardinal tetras to join my loaches in my planted tank. My general understanding is that I should quartine them and premtively treat for ich. This would work well, but I don't have the room of the equipment for a small qt (spare heater and filter). Can I put them in a plastic container and float that in the main tank with a air stone and regular water changes form the main tank? This way they would stay warm and get air. Any sggestions wil be greatly appreciated.
