Lead Plant Strips

I can't find the old post, but I once posted asking if the little lead strips you can tie around plants to hold them down were safe. Everyone that replied thought not.

Today a LFS told me that they don't advise using them because they are coated to keep the lead out of the water and the coating can wear off. This just confirms that they are dangerous.
