bogwood + clown loach

can anyone tel me how they have stopped their bogwood from turning the water a tea stain colour. I have a big tank and my fish include several clown loach. I tried soaking it for days then putting it in a tank - that didn't work. I tried leaving it outside in a big bucket of water in the ice cold of winter for a few nights - that didn't work. I was even told to boil it in salt water for 30 mins - that didn't work either, I left it boiling for hours and still the tea colour seeps out really bad. I have read that it is possible to varnish it with polyurethane varnish (supposed to be none toxic). Has anyone tried this way? Will it kill my lovely clown loach and other fish?? Can anyone recommend an alternative method??
