Slime Coat and Ph -also posted on Freshwater Forum

I've been trying to find out as much as possible about how and if a low Ph affects disease / treatment. My own limited experience is interesting but nowhere near thorough enough.(I posted a little article on my website about it)

At fishprofiles.com I was told that the low Ph I keep can gradually deteriorate the slime coating of my fish. This confuses me. If the slime coat was "static" in nature then I could see it. However isn't the slime coat constantly replenishing itself? That is to say isn't the slime constantly being generated by the fish? Because if this is the case then wouldn't the deteriating effect of my low Ph be negated by this?
