My tank is against the wall between two windows, and gets sun coming in the side of the tank for about 20 minutes in the early morning. Do you think that small amount of sunlight would make a difference? I never thought of that as a contributing factor. When the sun hits the tank everyone goes over to that side for a sunbath, so I'd hate to leave the blinds down. However, if it's contributing to general algae problems I will.
