giving up on otos... algae eater for 20gal?

So... I'm finally giving up on keeping otos :(
I've had similar experience with some other people here. Got the otos... stayed active and eating algae like there's no tomorrow for a month or so and then mysteriously died. I got a pair the first time, one died after a month or so I replaced it, and now one died again after another month or so (actually haven't found the survivor? yet).

Anyways enough blabbling... what would you guys suggest as a algae eater for my 20 gal? Am I pretty much stuck with dwarf pl*cos or whatever they called? Those little guys are pretty expensive here though. The LFS (Big Al's) here got true SAEs I *think*... they probably too big for 20 gal though? And I'm smart enough not to consider CAEs or common pl*cos... :P

I have mostly green algae (on rocks/decors), some hair algae, and those tiny white spot things on the sides of the tank. Not terribly bad but I would rather have a fish or two to keep them in check. I used to have brown algae too but not anymore since I got the otos (maybe that's how they starved themselves to death?).

Thanks for any suggestions.
