The plant guy here who's on plant duty 24/7 it seems ;D
Well, I've gotten a ton of opinions so far on using peat moss as a bottom layer. Some negative, some positive, seen SOME of it's plus's and negatives but I'm sure theres more. Ok...so heres the plan for my 10gal's substrate:
Gravel ( 2" w/ some latarite mixed in )
Latarite ( 1/4" )
Peat Moss ( 1/2" )
Although, I have yet to decide if I want to use it or not. I'm basicly looking for a awesome layer for the plants to root in plus lower the ph and soften the water, although I've read it wont affect ph much since its so far down underneath the gravel, a couple inches. I'm going to use the gravel thats in there, which is like 3-5mm average.
Plan is for hygro, water sprite, java fern, glosso, riccia, and crypts. All slammed into a 10gal. With DIY CO2 and the tank has 26watts
