driftwood preparation

The stuff we collected on the various lake shores of Ontario just got dumped into the tanks with nothing much being done to it. Certainly not boiling it because it floats forever and ever. There's been no adverse side effects.

The only thing that caused a spike in water values of the negative sort was the cork bark. There were probably lots and lots of organic things in the convoluted bark that rotted once placed underwater. We had a sort of mushroomy smell emanating from the tank for a month or so. That cleared up.

So I figure, unless there's bark on the wood someone wants to add to the tank, the plain driftwood with smooth surfaces shouldn't require sophisticated pre-placement handling.
