I pulled the Paradise out of iso this P.M. "King-Loach" went over to check him out. A nice fish- turquoise with alternating reddish stripes. Be careful- I found these guys can JUMP! And I mean a LONG ways! Seems to be settling in-nice colors!

Reminded me of a loach story- I swear this is true. My two largest Clowns Smiley and Bandit rule the tank-no questions. They had problems deciding who was going to run the joint, but Smiley came out on top. Bandit is a very close second.

I bought some Chinese algae-eaters a long time ago. They CAN get to be a pain as they get full-size-they get lazy and want fish food, and definitely get hostile. I had them with the Clowns, and they were reaching this age. I was thinking maybe they needed a one-way trip to a local pond.
The largest one was really a bully- always chasing someone and demanding territory. But he made a big mistake- he tried to chase the Clowns, and he was really picking on the smallest one, Howard. Thsi was happening a lot, and Howard was being terrorized.

One morning the largest Chinese algae eater (CAE) was really picking on him. Then, all of a sudden, the two larger loaches took off after the CAE, chasing him into a corner.

The CAE sat there, then tried to swim away. Smiley head-butted him, driving him into the corner. The CAE tried again to swim away, and Bandit head-butted him into the corner. The loaches sat at about 45 degree angles from that CAE, about 3" away, and every time it moved they drove ot back into the corner. Their eyes were PISSED. If they could have killed that fish, they would have.

Finally, the clowns left, and the CAE skulked off into a corner, to lick his wounds. And from then on he was a CHANGED creature. He stopped stealing food, and stopped terrorizing the other fish. The other CAE was more mellow, too. To this day they mostly eat algae- they are GOOD at cleaning, but usually act up when they get older.

Once in a while, the largest one will still act up- Smiley just chases it for a few seconds, reminding him who is boss. There is peace now.

This was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen fish do. People who don't keep fish have no idea how intelligent some species are. After I saw all this happen, I never second-guessed their intelligence again. GREG
