Plants and loaches

I have a few questions regarding plants.

1) Do silk plants have any problems.. does the silk degrade over time?

2) Will plants grow faster if you left the plant light on 24 hours a day?

3) I am getting a 220 gallon tank to put my loaches in... I was thinking about having 2 different sets of lighting. One very dim and one VHO plant light (bright). I was thinking about setting up timers so that in the morning the dim would come on (2 hours) then later the bright ones for 7-8 hours then shut off and the the dim ones come on for another 5-6 hours.

The question I have about number 3 is ... would the clown loaches be unhappy with this arrangement and are there any plants that can survive on 8 hours of vho lighting a day.
