Loaches and synos?

Has anyone tried keeping loaches and synos together? I'm wondering because I have a great fish store nearby that stocks synodontus angelicus. I'd like to get a massive tank and keep an angelicus, and maybe later add some clowns, once the angelicus is big enough to compete with them. (They're tiny synos -- ~1 long.) I was concerned that they might fight, or that the clowns would pick at the syno's whiskers ... synos are also supposed to be mildly territorial, and I wasn't sure if that would conflict as well.

Any opinions would be helpful. (:
