Reverse Flow UGF

Does anyone happen to know if you should be able to see water moving under the UGF plate when in reverse mode?
Also, would it be even more beneficial to actually "inject" oxygen under the plate?
The reason I ask is that I know the theory behind a reverse flow UGF is to be able to pump water from higher up in the water column (thus more oxygen) down under the plate to oxygenate your nitrifying bacteria from the bottom up. So, I'm wondering if I should use my AquaClear PowerHead's air venturi to let ait go down under the plate. On the other hand, what happens to air if it gets trapped under the plate for long periods of time?
I'm also wondering if too much air might cause a blockage, you know how air and water really don't mix and what if the water can't channel past any air pockets.
Thanks in adv
