Cleaning artificial plants

Does anybody have a gentle method of cleaning fake plants? Mine are starting to get really grubby now and the look is not good. Some have smooth leaves, which is ok, but others have textured leaves and some (ambulia?) are too fine to scrub. I tried soaking one in some pond cleaner (Crystal Pond) but all it did was start leaching the colour out of the plant.
