Clown discoloration

I've had three clown loaches for around 5 years. They have always been active and healthy with very good appetites. The dominant loach is about 5". Just recently, this loach has developed dark splotches which are most evident on the yellow areas although they are also present on the black areas. Kind of like the skin of an apple that is bruised. His behaviour is normal. He eats well and is active. Has anyone seen this discoloration before and is it some kind of disease?
