Dojo loach experiment

Well I put my Dojo's on the back porch in a tub in May along with my feeder guppies. I haven't seen them since then because the sides of the tub were opaque, well I did glimpse them now and then sort of like the Loch Ness Monster but not sustained.

Anyway, I was using a sponge filter on this tub and doing 50% water changes once or twice a week depending on the heat.

Brought my loaches in yesterday and they have almost doubled in size, they are almost as big around as 2 of my fingers put together, and I have a large hand for a woman. The tub when I broke it down had about 1 inch of sediment on the bottom, it looked rich and black, put some on my house plants.

I am wondering if letting a layer of sediment grow in a tank would be a natural thing for loaches. If the water is kept clean, woul
