Damaged loach spine

i recently got some botia "robusta" types. one i got, a really good looking one (almost 3"), i noticed after he was netted that "his" left subocular spine was damaged. i felt sorry for him, and because "he" was very nice otherwise, i bought "him" (only $4.99 anyway).

the spine does not retract, and the flesh is inflamed around the wound, like "he" got it stuck in something. has anybody else have had a loach with a damaged spine, that lived later a happy life?
