50 gallon with leaks...

My question: is it worth tearing apart a 50 gallon tank, down to the glass to reseal it since patches don't seem to be working? My 50 gallon has sprung leaks...I tried to caulk where the water was coming through the seams and ended up with more than I started with. I am assuming that the way I handled it, being a small person and it being a big tank may have loosened the old seams. I didn't remove the old caulk, which is a no no but it didn't seem too bad at first. I can buy a new 50 gallon tank for $39.95 and a big tube of caulk $12-. Is it worth it?
