A nice shade of green but fish can't be seen

I don't have any experience with it,but a friend has a bad case of the green,free-floating type algae(the kind that clouds the water). The setup is a larger Eclipse with no live plants. There is a clown loach in there(somewhere)along with other community fish. What is the best way to get rid the algae without harming anything?

Thanks for any suggestions.
