Questions on feeding worms???

I have a few questions on feeding live worms to my clowns in a 55g heavily planted tank.
Can you use baitshop night crawlers, (cut up?)or red worms (whole?) How about meal worms?
Also I have play sand substrate will the live worms get into the sand and die there?
I am assuming my other fish; 2 blue, 1 golden gourmai, 2 pair swords, 6 zebra dinos, 4 neons, 4 albino Tiger barbs will also eat the live worms.
Sorry the post is so long, I'd rather have my questions answered bypeople with the experience than find out the Hard way I've done something wrong.
Thanks in advance,
