My spawning female died :(

This morning while cleaning the gravel in my river tank, I found my spawning female Pseudogastromyzon cheni dead! She had no marks on her or had she shown any signs of something being wrong. Last night, I did notice her being lighter in color than usual, but they do change color according to mood. I feel lucky to have had good spawning of this species for a year, but it is a blow nonetheless. Since I'm not sure how to tell the sexes apart and I don't see them in stores that often, I may not be able to spawn these fish again.
