Magtinic Actinic Bulbs-?-

I just got two 36" Coralife actinic bulbs with a used twin-tube light fixture. Does anyone know if this type of bulb is good or bad for freshwater fish and live plants? I've tried to research it, but am not coming up with much other than they are usually used for growing coral in saltwater tanks. I'm using one along with a Gro-lux light over my 40g tank. It looks kind of nice, but I want the plants to grow well...don't know if I should just replace the bulb. Thanks.
