Obvious botia junky--how to tell age in morlettis?

Obviously, I've caught the botia bug big time since I added my pair of skunk loaches to my trio of Kuhlis.
One last question about my skinny skunk loach. Since he does appear to be eating, is quite active, and has not keeled over after one week, I'm wondering if he is just a young loach.
He is nearly the same length as the other loach, but he is thin (picture halfway between a kuhli in bulk and your classic skunk body shape), his fins underneath are not as orange as the other loach, and his coloring is not as "creamy" but is instead more transparent somehow.
Do botias tend to grow in length before they grow in bulk and develop that stumpy profile?
