Stratisfied biotope

I enjoy gouramis and botias so I have decided to try stratisfying the biotope of my 55 gal tank. This will take some doing since, as far as I know, gouramis perfer still waters and botias enjoy some current. So, I plan to arrange the bottom of the tank with slate, one large piece of driftwood and addedd some java ferns and some clumps of java moss. For the gouramis, I plan to add a mass of floating plants, perhaps even some duck weeds. I also plan to extend the filter tube down to about two inches above the gravel so that the current will be a little more localized to the bottom. Any suggestions or ideas?
