Dojo/weather loach too big for 20 gal. tank?

Simple question here.

Would a 20 gallon tank be too small for a dojo loach? I keep seeing all sort of different information about their maximum size (anywhere from 4.5" to 10") and just don't know how big they really grow. Also, I've heard there is a different species of weather loach that does grow smaller than the run of the mill variety - is that true? If yes, what characteristics would I look for to get one of the smaller loaches?
