healthy loaches but poorly Guppies!

My daughter has a 100 litre tank with 2 loaches, possibly Sid the Monkeys; 2 catfish and many guppies. The guppies have developed a virulent fin rot since new year, which has wipied out many of them, but left the loaches & catfish unscathed. The guppy website recomends dosing the tank with a teaspoon of salt per gallon of water for four days.(25 teaspooons/day) Is this going to adversely affect the loaches? It sounds really salty to me.
Thanks for your help!
