Here I Go Again....Water Changes vs. Cycling

Hey again everyone! I have a question for you all regarding water changes and tank cycling. The other day we removed the undergravel filter system and put in the good ol sandstone bar. In doing so, a LOT of junk (from only 2 weeks no less) was floating around in the water. So we did a water change. Probably around 90% or so. The fish are doing fine now, and the water is no longer cloudy. The ammonia seems to have gone back down to around .5-1ish instead of the 6-7 it was at before.

My question is, though, was it bad to have done that water change in the middle of the cycle like that? The water had been extremely cloudy for 3 days, so you experts might know how far into the cycle it was. If it did indeed mess up
