I know what you mean about the identification problems and name game. I noticed the similarity with S. montana in the Baensch Atlas Photo Index to N. beavani.Looking at the LOL species index also added to the confusion because of the similarity to the picture of N. scaturgina. They do seem to behave very similar to the polka dot loaches (S. corica) I have in another tank. In fact, they look like the same fish,but with much different markings. I guess they have that general Nemocheilus/shistura shape and behavior.
