Live or Plastic?

I posted a message on the Freshwater Forum but I only got one response. I wanted more opnions about the matter. I know this doesn't deal directly with loaches, but I am sure you can still help. Here is my message.

I am thinking about upgrading to a larger, 46 gallon tank. I am pretty new to keeping fish. I was wondering if I should get live or fake plants. I was leaning towards fake because of the obvious reasons (less care, don't have to feed, etc.). I like the look of real plants but I don't think I want all the up-keep. Is keeping live plants not as much up-keep as I come to expect and is there a real benefit of having live? Thanks!
