Hill stream loach?

I've just bought a 'Butterfly plec' from the pet store down the road. I was told he was ok just to put in with my fancy goldfish, and that he wouldn't need any extra food, he'd just eat algae. Well, he appears to have eaten all the algae off the tank, and sits behind a rock in a bit of the tank where the water's still. I have my power head on full blast with loads of bubbles - but he doesn't seem to like this bit of the tank. I'm pretty sure he's a hill stream loach (Beaufortia) after looking at the pictures on the loach directory - any suggestions on how I can suppliment his diet? is he ok in the quiet part of the tank - or should I get him his own set up? Help!
