It's okay to play with your food....

as long as you're a loach. :)

Our clown loaches have been doing something that just cracks us up every time we see them. The first time it happened, I wondered if it could be dangerous to them in some way, but we've decided that the loaches know *exactly* what they're doing!

They love cucumber slices and always eat the center first, leaving the skin in a hollow circle. Our smallest loach will stick his head through the circle and swim around with the cucumber skin around his middle just like a teeny hula hoop! They also bat the cuke skin around, stand it on end and roll it around the tank, or chase it up and down the water column. And the smallest loach, named "Gnat", will swim THROUGH the cuke skin. It's hilarious to watch him line it up, get it just so, then dart through it. They play with it until it's ragged, then squabble over who will get the last bite.

If this was something that only happened once, we'd have thought it was just another one of 'those silly loach things'. But it happens EVERY time! Anybody else's clown loaches do similar things? Ah, the joys of clown loaches. :)
