Return from the Dead

Hi everyone. I have had a beautiful Horseface Loach for about 6 months in a 15 gallon tank with Congo Tetras, Neon Dwarf Rainbowfish, a disgruntled male Platy, and a (yuck) Algae Eater. (In fact it was this site that helped me put an i.d. on my HFL.) Anyways, to my question. My HFL was very happy for about a month but then he just flat out disappeared. I knew that many loaches hide in the substrate so I looked around and he wasn't there. As many fishkeepers would, I assumed he was dead and eaten, probably by my AE. So yesterday I look in the tank, lo and behold, my long-lost HFL is eating the staple flake at the surface. Is this a normal thing, for loaches to return from the dead? I have had many Khulis over the years and not seen this behavior ... ever. Thanks!
