Clown Loach withOut Barbels?

Hi there!

Had stopped in at a downtown fish store and they had two 5-6" fish that looked almost exactly like clown loaches (charcoal grey stripes over a light orange field) but they were rounder in the belly, distinct, large eyes not fully camouflaged by the tiger stripe and I swear they do not have barbels - front whiskers. They were kept in a 30g tank with bala and iridescent sharks. One clown loach stayed towards the middle strata and the other one was in the diagonally opposite corner close to the top of the tank. They definitely did not look happy just kind of forbearing their environment. The caretakers did mark the tank as having clown loaches in it and were charging $25 US for each. I asked the salesperson and he just automatically said "yes, they're the loaches".
