In Response To: Botia Pulchrinnis? (Michael Ophir)

First of all, I believe the correct spelling is pulchripinnis. There is little info available on this fish. I've been checking icthyological databases and catalogs, and so far I have found no references at all. It is a blue loach about 4 inches long, skinnier than b. modesta, with a black blotch on the caudal penducle. Sound a little like b. lecontei? There is some confusion about these two. After doing some research, I have theorized that the Baensch atlas has screwed everyone up by mislabelling b. pulchripinnis as b. lecontei. All the other pictures I have seen of b. lecontei show a blue loach with yellow fins. If you want to do some checking for yourself, The Master Index of Freshwater Fishes names some reference sources. I have checked the Axelrod Atlases and the ADI article, and they seem to confirm my theory. I'll be keeping at this one for a while, and I'll let the gang here know if I find anything definitive. God I hope that the Aqualog boys come out with a loach book soon! ---Don
