Playing in Sand!

In an effort to make everybody in my tank more comfortable, since it is mostly loaches and they don't like gravel, I got some black aquarium sand to go with the black gravel (Not all Yanks have purple gravel) and put it in. It will take the guys some time to adjust, I'm sure, but my corys seem to like it. One was putting the front half of his body in and blew bubbles! Too weird for me. Since my newest loach hates everyone, he can truly bury himself now and hide from the world. Does anyone have experiece with sand? It can't really be a lot of fun to vacuum, does a sand storm start every time? Being a native of arizona, I can cope with a dry sand storm, but wet? I'd love to hear some thursday morning (eastern standard time) quarterbacking! Have I made the mistake of all mistakes?
