Weather loach behaviour

Does anyone know what a weather loach is doing when it suddenly screws up its nose and kind of jumps suddenly?? I have observed this in both my large loaches (6 inches). They then dart to the surface and all seems to be fine. Is it to do with digesting food or something? anyone any ideas?!! I know lots of loach can use atmospheric air and gulp at the surface for this reason, but accompanied by them screwing up their noses in the most adorable way, I am stumped!!

I would love to correspond with anyone who loves weather loach as much as I do! sp please feel free to e-mail me,
